Over 25 years ago, I taught a high school Government & Economics course. When I pointed out various outrageous policies, not unlike the one in the video below, they were dumbfounded that "our government" would do such things.
Couldn't our leaders see the destructive nature of such acts? Why do they do such things over and over and over again?
I told my students that such things stop being a mystery once you stop assuming that the leaders are on our side.
