Warrior's Dilemma, 7

As we saw in a previous post, every law system is at war with any and all who do not comply with that system. Law systems that clash normally wind up at war.

The reason is that the rival systems represent rival religions and, ultimately, rival gods. R.J. Rushdoony points this out in Institutes of Biblical Law.

[I]t must be recognized that in any culture the source of law is the god of that society. (p. 4)

This is true both logically and historically. You can see war as a clash of religion and a test of the superiority of a nation's god(s) in the account of the Phillistines' capture of the Ark of the Covenant.

And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen. And the ark of God was taken. . . . (1Sa 4:10-11)

And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod. When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon. And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again. And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him. Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day. But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof. (1Sa 5:1-6)

Getting back to Rushdoony's comment, we must answer the following questions:
  1. Judging from the source of her laws, who is America's god?
  2. Judging from her motives for going to war, what is America's religion?
Your comments and suggested answers are welcome.

America's source of law is 'we the people' as they are daily manipulated by a co-opted, socialist, state-run media. It is not any trancendant or objective standard, not even the constitution.

America's religion is 'the pursuit of happiness', even more then life and liberty, though these are understood as MY life and MY liberty, however I choose to define them. God is pretty much an after-thought; a divine rubber stamp we apply to our own 'free and equal' opinions. But, since we reserve the right to define 'God' however we want as well, we have completely enthroned moral relativism and have no room for objective truth, which we have consigned to Sunday mornings and prayer closets exclusively. Religious truth must never intrude on real life, or public life, especially if it's any form of christianity.

If the God of the Bible was the source of our civil laws, we would not have an economy consisting of funny money and usury and fake economic 'growth'. We would have real money (gold & silver) and righteous lending practices and economic growth rooted in real production and savings. We would not have rampant legalized theft at every level of government and industry (socialism). We would not have any push to legalize sodomy and equate such filth with marriage as it was established and hallowed by God Himself. We would not tolerate the slaughter of the unborn. Nor would we institutionalize our children in public agnostic indoctrination centers, or our elderly in nursing homes. We would value and encourage full-time motherhood and responsible husbands and fathers, instead of subsidizing and encouraging illigitimacy and the abortion industry. We would protect our borders and citizens from the maraudings and lootings of illegal aliens, who invade our country and disobey our laws with impunity. We would not allow international corporations to run rough-shod over the environment or local businesses. Nor would we allow them such intimate and lucrative access to the halls of power.

If we were only as biblical as our forefathers, our States and Counties would insist that they created the Feds, not the other way around. The States would insist once again on the primacy of local self-government under God, and a constitutionally limited federal government.

Sorry about the rant, but you get the idea...

I completely agree with Mr. Gerard.

America has many gods, but they are all required to bow to the high god of the State.

I have to say that (depending on the specific situation) the Supreme Court or the President is the considered the ultimate authority in this country. All the other gods of this country are required to bow down when one or other of these two bodies rules in a situation.

god = the State, as the "embodied" will of the people. So, practically speaking, whomsoever runs the cabal is god

religion = Narcissism.

Well, I don't know, but it ain't the one, true God.

The other commentors all have good points, especially Mr. Gerard. It would appear that we have the God of self.

Our land is so messed up it's hard for me to even begin. All I know is, we've left God behind...and look where it has taken us.

I have nothing to add but my agreement. Mr Gerard said it all.
