As I've mentioned before, when I was a boy of about 11 or 12, I started collecting self-defense ads. I cut them chiefly from old Popular Science and Popular Mechanics magazines.
I also collected pennies, but frankly, the thought of becoming an invincible warrior captured my heart in a way that copper coins never could. I recently ran across one of those old ads, and I thought I'd share it with you. It's an ad for Bernard J. Cosneck's American Combat Judo, which I have reviewed in a previous post.

The ad came from the April, 1948 issue of Popular Mechanics -- It was always very important for me to date my ads correctly.
